Job Description:

The Directional Drill Team Member assists with the installation of underground telecommunications infrastructure using directional drilling equipment and related construction methods. This position supports all phases of underground utility construction, including site preparation, conduit placement, equipment operation assistance, and general labor duties while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist directional drill operators with underground utility and fiber optic installations.
  • Load, unload, transport, and organize tools, materials, equipment, and supplies at job sites.
  • Perform potholing, trenching, conduit placement, and hand digging as needed.
  • Locate and expose existing underground utilities safely before drilling operations.
  • Support the setup and breakdown of drilling equipment and job sites.
  • Operate basic construction equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and traffic control requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, inspectors, and utility representatives.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior construction, utility, telecommunications, or directional drilling experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn drilling operations.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, safety procedures, and utility markings.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.
  • CDL or ability to obtain CDL is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of underground utility construction practices preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment.
  • Strong attention to safety and situational awareness.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime when needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.

Work Environment

This position primarily works outdoors at active construction sites and may be exposed to traffic, noise, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions. Safety-sensitive work practices are required at all times.
