Job Description:

The Telecom Construction Inspector is responsible for overseeing and inspecting telecommunications construction projects to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with company standards, customer specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable regulations. This position serves as a field representative responsible for monitoring contractor performance, verifying quality workmanship, documenting project progress, and supporting successful project completion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect telecommunications construction projects, including aerial and underground fiber optic installations, conduit placement, utility construction, and restoration work.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and construction schedules.
  • Review engineering prints, construction drawings, permits, and utility locates prior to and during project execution.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify quality of workmanship, material usage, and adherence to company and customer standards.
  • Identify construction deficiencies, safety concerns, or non-compliant work and ensure corrective action is completed promptly.
  • Document daily construction activities, production progress, inspections, incidents, and project updates.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, municipalities, utility representatives, and customers throughout project execution.
  • Verify restoration activities are completed properly and meet local and customer requirements.
  • Assist with permit compliance, utility coordination, and right-of-way issues as needed.
  • Participate in project meetings, status updates, and field walkthroughs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and damage prevention practices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of telecommunications, utility construction, or construction inspection experience preferred.
  • Experience with fiber optic construction, underground utilities, or aerial telecommunications infrastructure preferred.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications construction standards and outside plant (OSP) practices preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • The ability to lift 50 Ibs
  • The ability to pass a Background Check
  • The ability to pass a Drug Screen

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of telecommunications construction methods, safety practices, and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, utility locating procedures, and traffic control standards.
  • Strong observational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with contractors, field personnel, customers, and management.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed project records.
