Client : Detroit Symphony Orchestra
Location : Detroit, MI
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is a Detroit icon and the fourth oldest symphony orchestras in the country. These world-class musicians perform to thousands annually both in-residence at historic Orchestra Hall is Midtown Detroit and via its Live From Orchestra Hall series of free webcasts. A pioneer in the world of streaming performances, the DSO brings music to the masses and into schools across the region via this medium thanks to a generous benefactor.
The DSO, in anticipation of long-term increased bandwidth needs, wanted a scalable solution that was both cost-effective and an easy transition for the organization. As more performances are streamed and a new generation of classical music fans is introduced to the symphony, it was imperative to find an answer that could work for years to come. With the changing landscape of support for the arts, the DSO needed to find additional ways to reach future donors, supporters and fans in order to remain sustainable. Additionally, the orchestra aligned the timing of the circuit with the installation of its new phone system. It was critical to the DSO that all these changes be smooth and without any service interruption.
Solution : 123Net’s 100MB High-Speed Fixed Wireless circuit was the ideal choice for the DSO’s voice and data traffic. This increased bandwidth upgraded the DSO from its 20MB circuit. This solution is easily scalable, due to its ability to bypass traditional infrastructure. 123Net guaranteed an aggressive installation timeline of less than 30 days. The expedient install, combined with 123Net’s Project Management provided the DSO the unique opportunity to test the circuit for ten days before going live without extra cost. This testing allowed the DSO’s team to work with 123Net to resolve any issues in advance and without any downtime.
Results : 123Net’s service allowed the DSO to make a significant jump in bandwidth while saving money and without sacrificing quality. The DSO now streams performances without fear of poor video quality or service interruption. Additionally, 123Net’s best in industry, locally-based, support team is available 24-7 for the DSO providing an extra level of stability and confidence that all will run smoothly for the orchestra and its supporters. Finally, the increased bandwidth guarantees the DSO’s service needs are met for the future allowing the DSO to continue to bring great performances to new audiences.
