DETROIT, Mich., August 14, 2018 – The Detroit Internet Exchange (DET-IX) was founded in 2014 with five original members. Since then, it has grown exponentially to become one of the largest not-for-profit Internet exchange points in the world. This progress is, in part, due to an increase in content availability, which has created a demand for hardware that can support larger bandwidth capacity and increase the quality of performance for its users. DET-IX is constantly developing ways to support this demand.

The DET-IX is partnering with Arista to implement innovative high capacity hardware to bring more participants to the exchange. 123Net, who hosts the DET-IX, approached Arista with the DET-IX vision. Impressed with what DET-IX envisioned, Arista provided a new DCS-7504 N switch to drive the DET-IX.

Arista Networks is an industry leader in software driven cloud networking solutions for large data center and computing environments.
The Arista platform gives members access to the highest quality equipment available on the market. Arista’s next generation data center switches feature its Extensible Operating System (EOS), providing industry leading network stability. The Arista platform offers fully redundant N+1 line cards, supervisors and power supplies. This hardware upgrade has increased DET-IX’s switching capacity to a total of 15 Terabits per second and 7.2 billion packets per second.

With the addition of the Arista hardware, 123Net is excited to bring global content providers, carriers, and regional ISPs to meet and exchange traffic locally here in Detroit.

About DET-IX
The Detroit Internet Exchange (DET-IX) is a not-for-profit Regional Internet Exchange Point (IXP) with a switching fabric expanding throughout Southfield Michigan. Membership and ports are free. The collaboration of carriers, ISP’s, Content Providers and Enterprise Businesses connected to DET-IX allows for traffic to be exchanged freely, rather than paying to make the connection. This not only reduces the cost of exchanging traffic but provides a localization of traffic for the 4.5 million inhabitants of the Detroit metro area. For more information visit www.detroitix.com.
