Company History

123Net was founded by Daniel Irvin in 1996 as Internet 123, Inc. The following year Ryan Duda was hired. In 1998 Dan Irvin purchased a small ownership stake in a local phone company where Dan and Ryan worked together developing valuable experience that would later use to start their own business.

Early in 2001, Internet 123, Inc. purchased Local Exchange Carriers of Michigan, Inc. (LECMI), a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier service and Dan and Ryan officially entered the CLEC business. For several years Dan and Ryan operated both Internet 123 and LECMI out of Dan’s house until the two decided to lease their first data center space at 24700 Northwestern Highway Southfield, MI late in 2001.

In 2004, Northwestern Colo, LLC was formed and in 2005 purchased the location that would later become the headquarters for 123.Net. Later in 2008 Northwestern Colo purchased the adjacent building on Northwestern Highway. In July of 2010 LECMI officially changed its name to 123Net, Inc. In December of 2010, 123Net purchased all of the assets of West Michigan Internet Services (WMIS) located in Byron Center, MI.

In the fall of 2011, construction was completed at 24245 Northwestern Highway, a landmark data center that implemented hot-aisle cold-aisle design.

In July of 2012, 123Net’s Data Centers were successfully audited for SSAE-16, Type 2 compliance and In April 2013, 123Net opened newly remodeled data center space at it’s West Michigan office in Byron Center MI, at the former headquarters of WMIS.

123Net recently moved its business operations to 24700 Northwestern Hwy. following the purchase of the former Campbell Ewald headquarters by Northwestern Colo, LLC in January of 2013. This new site is home to 123Net’s headquarters and will house 100,000 sq. ft of Tier III with Tier IV features and state-of-the-art data center space.
